Gunman: It's Like Laser Tag With Your iPhone!
Written by Efren Toscano
Monday, 18 January 2010 12:18
During CES we caught up with Jeremy Toeman creator (and target) of the Gunman iPhone app.  Gunman is an augmented reality game that uses the iPhone's camera as a rifle scope and lets you start an all out shootout between you and a friend. So, how do you get the action started?  Gunman gives you 5 colors to select from (red, green, blue, black, white) which you specify as the color of your opponents shirt.  Select a match duration and you are on your way.  Tapping the screen fires your rifle and …

Get your groove on with Mobi Headphonies

Mobi HeadphoniesIf you've ever been to TechZulu's Hollywood HQ, you know that Domo and Totoro stand guard over my Mac. I'm a sucker for the cute stuff, and at CES, the Headphonies from Mobi Technologies were no exception. These three-inch designer mini speakers feature a hi-fi amplifier that surprisingly pumps out the same bass as a regular boom box. You can also purchase a splitter to connect two of these characters for stereo sound. The Headphonies snatched up a CES Design & Engineering award, so keep a…

Hands-On: Sony VAIO X-Series Notebook PC
Written by Amanda Coolong

With all the traveling we do here at TechZulu, we're always on the lookout for ultra portable gear with high computing power and decent battery life. And if it looks snazzy, all the better. Which is why I was so excited to come across the Sony VAIO X-Series ultra thin notebook at CES. This super-sexy notebook computer weighs in at just 1.6 pounds and is a mere half-inch thick. You can thank its carbon-fiber casing for that, which also makes the X-Series surprisingly durable. Just look at these …

TechPunch - The Real CES: Day Two
Written by Jacob Nahin
Thursday, 14 January 2010 10:59
Some of you no doubt watched TechPunch's "The Real CES: Day One," where Enrique Gutierrez (@nrek) and I took on the CES show floor and show-cased some pretty laughable products. Between Central hall and South Hall, Enrique and I found mp3 players with 1-inch screens (it displayed E-books!) and Cansonic camcorders. We thought CES couldn't get any more peculiar. Then we visited North Hall. Yes, there were some gems like (more) iPod and iPhone cases, but we focused on a little area in the back tha…

Tiny Projector, Big Screen
Written by Jacob Nahin

The Microvision Show WX is another in a line of smaller and smaller handheld projectors. It projects VGA-quality video and runs about $500. Unfortunately, it can't be bought in the U.S ... yet. The rep we spoke to said he hopes that will change sometime soon. Still, in a world where projectors are being combined with cell-phones, can a device like this thrive?

TechPunch - The Real CES: Day One
Written by Enrique Gutierrez

January 7th, 2010 marked the beginning of the 3D television extravaganza in the Las Vegas Convention Center. The Consumer Electronics Show (CES), was very anti-climactic. After the first four hours of walking through it, and nearly four days left on the schedule to fill with curiosity, Jacob Nahin and I were given the green light to create a satirical video of our take on the show. What did we find? Completely absurd MP3 players with some great features for such useless devices, Wii …

OrigAudio's Rock It: Sound from Anything
Written by Jacob Nahin
Tuesday, 12 January 2010 15:21
"Rock It," a device from OrigAudio, brings your music to just about anything dense enough to carry a vibration. Though not a traditional speaker in itself, when paired with another hollow object (like an empty box of Cheerios), the device sends vibrations through the object, producing sound. The Rock It doesn't produce Bose-quality sound by any means, but I liked that it's capabilities only seem limited by the objects at hand. A cardboard box will produce one level of sound and a plastic ice-buc…

Robotinno struts his stuff at CES.

Robotinno, a consumer-level remote-control robot made by Taiwan company Innovati, made its own appearance at CES and showed off a few moves for us. Robotinno is a modular-based robot (meaning it can be put together in a variety of ways, based on available modules and programming), filled with sensors and wires. Unlike the joysticks featured on Innovati's web site, these videos show Robotinno being controlled by a DualShock-like controller.
