It was a packed event at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood, with more than 1000 tweeps from around the world.
In case you missed the tweet-stream, here’s a round-up of our Top 5 panels:
@wmmarc, William Marc Salsberry, delivered an effective, emotionally-charged presentation on the value of twitter for those going through difficult times in his panel titled, “Passion+Cancer=The Perfect Wingman.” Many tears and hugs were shared in the Kodak Theater.
 (photo by CuriousJosh.com) Mommy-blogger @JessicaGottlieb brought “the real” to #140conf with her panel on monetizing tweets, a controversial topic in the Twitterverse. Gottlieb also gave practical advice for those wishing to build their brand via Twitter. She said, “If you’re helpful…pretty much anybody will help build your brand.”
(photo by CuriousJosh.com) @Drew, Drew Olanoff, introduced the crowd to a new (forgotten) use for the cellphone…using it to make actual phone calls with meaning to loved ones. “Nobody knows how to use the ‘phone’ features,” said @DrewPhone] is “real-time.”"Nobody knows how to use the 'phone' features. Phone is "real-time."@Drew is fighting cancer and has turned his battle into a Twitter charity with the hashtag #blamedrewscancer. Everytime a tweep uses the hashtag, $1 is donated to charity.
@Hardlynormal, Mark Horvath, reminded us that thousands of men, women, and children across the country sleep on streets instead of homes, lacking the basic necessities of life. He introduced us to @padschicago, Ann Marie, a homeless woman who uses Twitter that he met while on his recent cross-country trip to make the invisible, visible.
(photo by CuriousJosh.com) @alexiatsotsis, @laweekly, aka Erin Broadley, and @seanpercival, took the stage to say that us tweeps are the rockstars. Percival said, “I want to tell these people how to give good tweet.” Broadley gave kudos to citizen journalists throughout LA for helping LA Weekly the stories it reports. #140conf was an excellent event for tweeps to connect. #140Conf The Good and Improvements For Next Time Around

Image by krynsky via Flickr #140Conf Los Angeles was fantastic, full of familiar faces. Still, no event is perfect, and with that, here are a some things we loved and a some things we thought could use some improvement:
Good: The meeting room on the first floor was the hub of mingling. If you wanted to meet new people or chat with familiar faces, this was where you did it.
Try This: No free food? Sure, the complimentary soda, tea and coffee were appreciated, but while we had press passes, we feel that those who shelled out greenbacks for admission deserved at least a bagel or croissant.
Good: Each panel crammed in a freighter-load of intelligent information given the time each was allotted.
Try This: Power Point presentations are a cornerstone of conferences and keynotes, but at 8 o’clock in the morning, flow charts and bar graphs are a bit much for a crowd that spent the previous night partying. We thought some of the most effective presentations had no PowerPoint at all. If Power Point is a must, stick to pictures.
Good: The meeting room was packed with power plugs and the Kodak Theater had free WiFi.
Try This: The Orchestra/Mezzanine had very few plugs compared to the number of laptops and cell phones glowing in the audience. Thank God for the Squid (Efren's surge protector). Next time, equip the room with a few surge protectors. Also, the Wifi was terrible. Once again, the number of devices using the Internet overwhelmed the building’s capabilities. For a conference based around Twitter, fewer people were able to Tweet than otherwise could have.
Good: For any big event, organization is important, and can make or break a conference. The organizers of #140conf did a stellar job and delivered a fast paced event.
Try This: The Oscar music seemed a little out of place. Pick a different song.
Still, despite these suggestions, 140 Characters, Los Angeles was full of several nuggets of wisdom, and, from an organizational standpoint, compares well to other events. As future conferences come up, we hope that the #140 Characters crew will take these suggestions for what they are, improvements that will enhance the experience for all attendees. 140 Character's Conference, here we come!

Most everyone that uses Twitter loves Twitter, but not everyone understands it. People who know of it, and aren't on it, choose not to be... They fear it, they don't get it, or they shun the poor little bird, thinking it's a cult of weirdos who can only stare at their phones when sitting around a table at a bar. Though that may be somewhat true, it's not entirely accurate, and the 140 Characters Conference is right around the corner to help clear some of that up. Started by Jeff Keni Pulver, the 140conf is a fast paced, unique conference that focuses on Twitter, real-time web, how it effects business, search, and us - the users. The line-up of speakers is pretty stacked with great, influential folks, and TechZulu is definitely looking forward to covering the event. We hope to see you there! Details:

If you are interning at any start-up company chances are that you have heard of the 140 Character Conference put on Jeff Pulver that is going to be held at the Kodak Theater this coming week Oct. 27-28. According to Jeff Pulver since 1997 he has always granted free access to any currently enrolled college student to any conference he has been associated with. The way of photo sharing today is "Allowing people to be able to connect in different ways" says Jeffrey. Being able to snap a picture these days has been easier then ever. Even folks that do not own a camera or video camera themselves, do own a phone which now is pretty standard to have a camera on them that do one or the other or even both. Being able to share those photos has become even easier with services like Tweetphoto, Twitpic, etc. instantly giving you the ability to share those photos online. A few Product features and other things I wanted to point out about using the Kodak Zi8 while we were at the 140conf: Overall it is a solid device. The added external microphone jack is what does it for me. Being able to plug a microphone has always been a big issue for me with these pocket-sized handheld HD devices. Yes they are all very great but sound quality is a huge issue when you are trying to get an awesome interview and at least make it presentable. There are a lot of issues people are willing to put up with when watching a video but audio quality is not one of them. Low light is an issue for the Zi8. With plenty of light the Zi8 works fantastic and I can live with that since we usually carry a lighting kit with us. But those planning on shooting at night might not find this the best method to do so, unless you have some sort of lighting with you.
